Stade Rennais FC fell to a 1-0 defeat against Stade Lavallois in a friendly on Friday. Coach Franck Haise highlighted several positive aspects in his team's performance, which lacked cutting edge in front of goal.

The only goal of the match came on the hour mark. Laval's Mathys Houdayer found the net in the 61st minute. Stade Rennais FC dominated the chances, however, hitting the woodwork four times, particularly in the second half. With many internationals away, Haise fielded a heavily reshuffled lineup, giving minutes to several young players.

"Obviously a defeat is not pleasing," admitted Franck Haise. "One of the objectives of this match was to win, so that one was not met, just like the objective to score goals despite, especially in the second half, a lot, a lot of chances." The coach believes his side should have scored despite the posts. He praised the team's control and volume of play, while noting a lack of presence in the box and penetration in the first half.

This match comes during a tough spell for Stade Rennais, who have now lost their last two matches. Their recent form reads three losses, one draw and one win from the last five outings. The team must now prepare for the return of league action and the home fixture against Auxerre on October 11th, a key match to get back to winning ways.

Haise also confirmed that Djaoui Cissé was able to play one half, a positive in a reduced squad. The aim of this break was clear: to work with the available group and assess options before the next competitive fixture.
