Beye admits Jacquet transfer could happen as Chelsea pursue Stade Rennais FC star
Chelsea's interest in Jacquet
Chelsea have been heavily linked with Stade Rennais star Jeremy Jacquet this month. Manager Habib Beye has admitted that anything is possible regarding the 20-year-old defender’s future before the transfer deadline.
The west London club continues to negotiate with Stade Rennais, who are hesitant about letting Jacquet leave midway through the season. One proposal being discussed involves Jacquet moving to Chelsea for a short period this month and then returning on loan until the summer.
Beye's comments and financial considerations
Beye has stated that there is still time in the transfer window and that he wants things to remain calm. He also acknowledged the financial reality, saying: 'I'm amazed by the calm with which he’s handling this situation. I felt he was very focused on what he’s currently experiencing.'
He further explained his stance as a coach: 'There's an economic reality, and I won't always have the final say. What I said was that when you're a team like Stade Rennais and you have high ambitions, as a coach, I want to keep my best players and have the strongest team possible. Jeremy is one of those players.'
Beye added: 'We've been very, very clear about Jeremy's situation; he's stable, and that's the most important thing for us. There are still a few days left in the transfer window. Anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible, which would be best for me.'
Rosenior's stance on potential signings
Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has remained tight-lipped about Jacquet’s situation, stating: 'You'll know about me, I don't speak about players at other clubs until something is agreed with any player. I think it's so disrespectful. If I was a manager of another team and a manager was speaking about my player, I wouldn’t be a happy person.'
However, Rosenior has made his expectations clear for potential signings: 'So we have to be very selective at this stage of the season. If we do bring in the right player in a certain position, they have to have a clear impact on the team.'
