Retrospect and Ambition
Former Stade Rennais defender Mikaël Silvestre recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Get French Football News. Reflecting on his time at the club and looking ahead to the upcoming season, Silvestre expressed optimism but also realism regarding Stade Rennais FC' ambitions.
Silvestre acknowledged that Stade Rennais FC faced some challenges early in the previous season under Franck Haise's management. However, he remains confident about their prospects for the new campaign. 'The club is always ambitious,' said Silvestre. 'Qualifying for Europe, the Europa League, should be a minimum expectation, but going further and qualifying for the Champions League would be great.' He emphasized that third place in Ligue 1 could be enough to secure Champions League qualification, although he noted that clubs with larger budgets might pose significant competition.
The Golden Era of France
Silvestre also reminisced about his time playing under the national team. 'I scored against Portugal in one of my favorite matches when France beat them 4-0 in 2001,' he recalled. 'It was a special feeling to play in such a strong and cohesive team where every player felt confident and capable.' Silvestre highlighted how, as part of that national squad, they entered each match with the belief that they could dominate their opponents and find solutions. He described it as an incredibly rare and unique experience.
Mikaël Silvestre's insights provide a glimpse into both his personal experiences and the broader ambitions of Stade Rennais FC for the upcoming season.
